NewsWNY Continues to See Declines in Consumer Bankruptcy FilingsPosted: October 04, 2010 Buffalo, NY – Consumer bankruptcy filings continued their significant decline locally, with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Western District of New York, reporting a 9.9 percent decrease during the month of September 2010, compared to the same month in 2009. The District is down approximately 7 percent for the year-to-date (January 1, 2010 - September 30, 2010). Conversely, filings have increased 11 percent nationally. “Although the economy in Western New York may not be great, it has remained relatively stable over the years,” said Jeffrey Freedman, senior partner, Jeffrey Freedman Attorneys at Law. “Many parts of the country have experienced the roller coaster effects of a boom and bust economy. In our area, our economy has been fairly consistent and there’s something to be said for that.” Nationally, bankruptcy filings remain on track to exceed 1.6 million this year. Jeffrey Freedman Attorneys at Law, which was established in 1980, has 15 offices in Western New York and Pennsylvania and handles bankruptcy, Social Security Disability and Personal Injury cases.
