Military Burn Pits Caused Lung Disease

By February 27, 2018VA Disability

A recent court ruling may finally vindicate thousands of US military personnel and private contractors whose health was compromised by the black smoke of burn pits and were then denied proper treatment.

A judge for the US Department of Labor’s Office for Workers’ Compensation Programs decreed that open-air burn pits that released thousands of chemicals into the air after trash and waste were incinerated at American military bases in Iraq and Afghanistan are connected to lung disease.

Nearly 64,000 active service members and retirees have put their names on a Burn Pit Registry created by the Veterans Administration.
