A new veterans identification card has been designed to provide convenient proof of service when veterans seek military discounts offered by restaurant and retail chains.
The new cards were rolled out at the end of November, but interest was so high on the application site operated by the VA that the site went offline. VA press secretary, Curt Cashour, stated that the VA is “monitoring the system regularly to ensure all veterans can access the application.” The goal is to get a printed card into veterans’ hands within 60 days of the application.
The new ID card can be used for veterans who do not qualify for medical benefits and do not, therefore, have a VA medical ID. And for those without VA medical coverage, the new ID card can take the place of an official discharge form.
