The New York State Inspector General’s office recently charged Dean Anthony of Sanborn with third-degree grand larceny, first-degree offering a false instrument for filing, and fraudulent practices within workers’ compensation, all felonies.
Mr. Anthony allegedly suffered a debilitating injury while moving a guardrail at his Thruway job in May 2017. He reported the injury, stopped working, and started collecting workers’ compensation benefits.
From June 2017 to August 2017, however, Mr. Anthony was observed servicing and installing swimming pools for a Sanborn pool contractor. He was engaged in this activity while claiming that he was totally disabled and unable to return to his Thruway position.
Throughout the period in question, Mr. Anthony collected benefits totaling more than $5,000 and submitted documentation to the State Insurance Fund that he was not working at all.
